Mr. T's 40th Birthday was a success!
We spent the morning at home, sort of relaxing and sort of catching up on some "to do's" that didn't get done on Friday. So the celebration really started around 12:30 when my Mom showed up to surprise him! We went out to lunch and then headed straight to Destination #1 - The Dancing Leaf Cultural Learning Center. I was so worried that it was going to be LAME! Boy was I wrong. It was a ton of fun! We went on this tour and learned all sorts of things about pre-historic Nebraska. Did you know there have been like a zillion Mammoth bones found here, including the largest Mammoth to ever be discovered. His name is Archie. You've probably heard of him, so I'm not telling you anything new. Anyway, next we went on a hike where we drank water from a fresh spring and collected a number of ticks on our clothes. Then the owners of the place invited us up to see their Oh So Cool house! Completely magazine worthy. If you're in this area, GO! You'll love it. Oh, and stop by to see us too.
After that, we were off to Destination #2. We went to the big city to eat at a Mongolian BBQ/Chinese place. It was yummy! After that, we left the restaurant and found ourselves in the middle of a hail storm. Don't worry, we found shelter under a bank drive through and waited out the storm. There were several tornadoes around us, which I tried to sleep through. I was slightly worried that we'd be stuck there for a long time. This worried me for two reasons. 1 - I had to go to the bathroom. 2 - we needed to get back home in time for Mr. T's Surprise Party. But it all worked out. The storm got over just in time and we were on our way.
On our journey home, we saw a huge dust storm that was turning into a funnel cloud. So, like all good mid-westerners, we pulled over to give it a closer look....and it was pretty cool. Then Mr. T got back on the road and decided to try and pass a semi-truck loaded down with hay. As he pulled into oncoming traffic, another car started heading towards us, so he slammed on his breaks to quickly get back behind the hay truck. It gave my Mom and I such a thrill. I'm pretty sure we both peed our pants. Mr. T was having the time of his life!
Finally, we made it back home. We pulled up to the house where we were having the Surprise Party and I started getting really nervous that something was going to ruin the surprise. As it turns out, there was nothing to be nervous about, because it totally worked! He was surprised and the house was full of some of his favorite people on earth. Grandma and Grandpa T brought a lovely cake and giant cookie, along with some pictures of Mr. T. Guests brought snacks and gifts and the Delightful Scollards opened their home to everyone. It was a great night.
I think Mr. T felt "celebrated", which is totally what we were going for. He is worth celebrating!
Happy 40th to the Man of my Dreams!
